Team Afton Early Colorado - Early-Nov. 2021
We're keen to be hosting our 7th season early season project. This is a U14 and older project (younger skiers may apply – but need approval from program director). Requires parent/guardian to attend for lodging purposes.
RSVP for this camp RSVP for CAMP!
MUST RSVP ASAP! We have determined Nov. 11-14 is the best fit for this 3-4 day DIRECTED FREE-SKI CAMP. The camp is dependent on enrollment (we need a critical mass), thus, we recommend making your plane reservations on Southwest Airlines since their rescheduling policy is the most generous.
RSVP now! All you need to do is get your plane ticket, and figure out your accommodation plan. Return flight should occur NO EARLIER than 5pm on Sunday. If you have any questions, contact TonyO (see info below).
For those of you who are in, we're glad you've committed to this project. It shows an understanding that: you can't just hope or wish to ski better - you have to commit to the time and work that will help make it happen. Sounds like work? It’s more fun when you perform better; so, look at it this way: you're working toward having more fun!
Notes on our trip -
Colorado is firing up winter - snow is not far behind in the mountains. A-Basin opens super early as does Keystone and Loveland Ski Area! We may in fact plan to ski at Vail on it's Gold Peak expansion. Therefore, it will be important to communicate with TonyO on where we are likely to land - as it relates to where we will headquarter (Lodging).
Still, there may be limited snow depth and space to ski. With that in mind, we will focus on directed free skiing, with attention to balance, edging, and technical mastery of body-positioning and pole use. Be prepared for a dominance of SL and short-medium radius GS turns - so it is advisable to bring SL skis, or a short radius GS. Hopefully, you have a pair from last season which might not hurt as bad if you ding a rock here-and-there. We will likely NOT ski any gates - so, if it were particularly bad conditions, you might consider bringing your twin tips, too.
TonyO and Co. (possibly others as needed)
- Thursday: TonyO fly into Denver on the afternoon of Thursday. Athletes should arrive before 7 pm- with parent/guardian in tow.
- Friday – Sunday: directed free-ski at A-Basin, Keystone, Loveland; or VAIL
- Sunday: Ski as long as possible before returning to the airport for evening flight. Do not book return flight before 5pm.
Coaching costs $TBD - covers any coaches travel expenses and coaching fees and coaches ground transportation.

Individual costs (estimated/variable) $300+/-. Your lodging needs to be arranged by your family unit; your daily out-of-pocket will include lift tickets and food. Our Epic pass will only work if we ski at Vail Resort properties (Keystone, Breckenridge, possibly Vail). Loveland generally runs about $25-$49 for a racer ticket. We have worked a group rate at A-Basin should we go that route. A-Basin is now IKON. Keystone/Breck are EPIC. Vail may have a special ticket required for the SSCV Expansion - generally $50.
