Hello Team Afton,

We’ve started rolling into the season with some communication, registration, and the beginning of dryland. We’re off to a great start.

But wait a minute, we forgot to say HELLO! Welcome to the season!

Last season, though some really weird-wild-stuff, was one of our best. We’re looking forward to an equally great season this winter with some added improvements – we’re a bit wiser with our approaches to the new realities we face as a society. We will remain flexible, agile, and safe and respectful. We will still be very conscious of our pandemic circumstances – following local, regional and national guidelines and keep all of us as safe as possible while we exercise our need for speed on the white stuff.

There’s a lot to cover as we ramp up to the season – with snow just around the corner. In this communication, we will highlight a few things you should mark on your calendars, add to your home screens on your phones, and generally refer to throughout the season.

Our schedule; our schedule for what we do as a team regarding practice generally resides on TeamSnap. Get used to using the app – and make sure your notifications are set up so as not to miss important alerts. Our website also has a calendar – which has the Central Division calendar connected to it. It’s a useful reference, but not as up-to-date as TeamSnap, but may offer some long-range views of the calendar. Finally, the race schedule; CR1 (Central Region One) is our local governing body. They maintain a website: www.skifast.com which has several schedules according to age groups. R1 (CR1) also maintains a google sheet which is a live document that offers a different layout to the race schedule. That schedule link is here: R1 Google Calendar

USSS (United States Ski & Snowboard – www.usskiandsnowboard.org ). This is our National governing body. The main parts to become familiar with regarding USSS is the race registration which can be accessed directly: My USSA | my.usskiandsnowboard.org To register for a race, we will provide a more detailed explanation closer to the season (but essentially, you will sign in to your account and on your dashboard click on “Athlete Event Registration”)

Obviously, if you’re new to this game – you will need some guidance. We will have small group meetings to go over some of the process to help smooth your experience. If you’re ever lost – call us for help!

Other topics:

Dryland – starting this week: Mtn Biking Sundays at 3pm either at Carver Lake Park (3175 Century Ave S., Woodbury MN 55125) or Sunfish Lake Park (3554 Kelvin Ave N., Lake Elm) and Wednesdays at Carver Lake Park at 5:30pm; + Advanced dryland (must register) at Training Haus at TCO in Woodbury on Tues/Thursdays. This Sunday, Sept. 19th – we will meet at CARVER!

Individual meetings – register for individual goal setting, equipment, scheduling and general season info on an individual/family basis. These meetings are scheduled for roughly 45 minutes and will center around dryland times. These meetings are not required – but encouraged for those who’d like personal interaction with us. The LINK to register for a time slot is here: INDIVIDUAL MEETING SIGN UP This link is best accessed from a google account. Be sure to look at the 2nd tab in the sheet for GOAL SETTING sheets, articles, and guidance.

Age Group meetings – will be scheduled for late September/early October – especially to cover scheduling of races for u14, u16, FIS groups. These meetings will be announced via TeamSnap and put on the TeamSnap calendar for specific groups.

Team Afton SKI SWAP and Meet ‘n Greet! – We’re havin’ a ski swap! Back by popular demand, we’ve set up an outdoor back-yard, side-yard, front-yard – yard sale for ski equipment. This is the ‘ol fashioned kind of swap: just meet up with yer neighbor and haggle a little and come to an agreement on price. Cash, Venmo, whatever – no middleman. Here’s the LINK to our FLYER for more details!

  • DATE: September 26th from 11am – 2pm
  • LOCATION: Jackson’s house (Reents), located on the west side of the former Afton Alps Golf course along St. Croix Trail – address: 15221 68th Street S. Hastings, MN.

Adding to this theme, we’ve made a pre-swap sheet to which you can post your stuff. Pre-sell your stuff if you want – then exchange it at the swap! This is a public google sheet where you can drop-in descriptions of your items you have for sale, and what you want for them. Here’s the LINK: PRE-SWAP Equipment Clearinghouse

(do this before the Buck Swap – Sept. 24-25-26, in order to avoid the 20% commission and keep the goods in the TA Family!).

Also did you know that we have a facebook page that’s up  all year with selling in mind, it’s the Team Afton – The Yard Sale on Facebook – here’s the LINK: https://www.facebook.com/groups/902155536602155.
